Authentic ink wash paintings by monks of Yotokuin Temple that display the teachings of Zen
Yotokuin is a temple of Myoshinji. The powerful yet warm ink paintings are born from the tranquil daily training there. Our ink wash painting collection uses authentic (hand-painted) works, each one lovingly and with the monks' own hand.
This precious piece has been carefully crafted using traditional techniques by a skilled and experienced mounter. Hanging scrolls, which were created in the Heian period to spread Buddhist teachings, became a symbol of "ichigo ichie" (a once-in-a-lifetime encounter) through the culture of the tea ceremony.
The harmony between the ink marks drawn by Zen monks and the beautiful Kyoto's finest fabric selected by artisans is more than just wall decoration; it is "living art" that brings deep peace and mindfulness to everyday life.
